ENGRAVING |
| |
|
If you require a special message, name, date or design engraved onto
an item of our jewellery we can arrange this for you on request. We
offer three types of engraving including
Standard Hand Engraving,
Standard Fancy Engraving and
Special Engraving for
complex designs. See our
Engraving Guide for examples. |
| |
|
We advise you to be certain of your purchase and to make sure that
you have the correct ring or bangle size before you have any item
customised with engraving. Otherwise you may not be able to take
advantage of our money back guarantee or free exchange service and
will be liable for all re-engraving charges and a possible re-make
if the item is to be re-sized. The re-engraving charges will be the
same as the original engraving costs. |
| |
|
Standard Hand Engraving |
|
When you purchase an item of jewellery you can have it hand engraved
for £4.50 per standard character. This is only available for small
sized engravings and most punctuation is free but symbols such as ?
! & are charged as a character. You can request a particular style
of writing such as Script, Block, Lower Case, Upper Case etc. by
stating your requirements in the "Additional Information" section
when purchasing the item. See our

ALTERATIONS & RE-SIZING |
| |
|
If you require your ring or bangle re-sized or perhaps a necklace or
bracelet shortened or lengthened then we can definitely help you out
as we pride ourselves on our customer care and after-sales service.
We offer our first
standard sizing or alteration for free and charge for any
subsequent re-sizing
or alterations. We also add our charms for free and offer a
rhodium plating service
on special request. We only offer these jewellery services on our
own products. |
| |
|
First FREE Standard
Sizing or Alteration |
|
We offer our online customers only, their first standard re-sizing
or standard alteration free for jewellery purchased directly through
our online shop. To take advantage of this free service you must
return the item of jewellery to us in its unworn, pristine,
re-saleable condition with original packaging and receipt within 28
days from the date you receive your goods in accordance with our
Terms and
Conditions. You will be responsible for any extra materials used
(e.g. if we have to make the ring at a larger size and this requires
extra precious metal; or if we have to add links to a bracelet or
necklace) and all delivery charges. |
| |
|
It is up to our jewellers’ discretion as to what we consider a
“standard” ring re-sizing or “standard” alteration, however examples
of free alterations would be re-sizing a plain band or removing
links from a bracelet or necklace. |
| |
|
In some instances we may have to hand make you a completely new item
and therefore you should be prepared for this to take time, but this
can still be a free service. This would be in instances where: you
have estimated the original ring size to be more than 2 - 3 ring
sizes out; for Diamond and Gem Stone & Wood jewellery where
re-sizing the item would ruin the setting; and for GEO and titanium
rings which cannot physically be re-sized. Therefore it is essential
that you return it for the correct size before wearing it. This also
applies to gift purchases. To take advantage of the free re-sizing
or exchange you must return the item of jewellery to us in its
unworn, pristine, re-saleable condition with original packaging and
receipt within 28 days from the date you receive your goods, in
accordance with our Terms and
Conditions. |
| |
For special orders, customised products (including engraving) and
bespoke items which require altering you will always be charged a
jewellery services fee which will be quoted for on a case-by-case
basis.
|
| |
|
Subsequent
Re-Sizing & Alteration Fees |
|
For any subsequent re-sizing or alteration we charge the following
labour fees plus the cost of any extra materials used and all
delivery charges. |
| |
|
Standard Ring Re-sizing or Alteration: minimum £25 -
but we will quote on a case by case basis. It is up to our jewellers
discretion as to what we consider a “standard” ring re-sizing or
alteration, however examples include re-sizing a plain band to
within 3 sizes and adding or removing links to / from a bracelet or
necklace. |
| |
|
Diamond, Gemstone & Wood Ring Re-sizing: minimum £45 -
but we will quote on a case by case basis. For these types of rings
or jewellery we have to remove the Gemstone or Wood to re-size the
ring and then re-set it again. The charge will vary depending upon
the number of Stones or pieces of Wood involved and the complexity
of the job. |
| |
|
Bespoke or Customised jewellery: we quote this on a
case-by-case basis. |
| |
|
Some items such as our GEO ring and all titanium products cannot
physically be resized. Therefore it is essential that you provide us
with the correct ring size at the outset or exchange it for the
correct ring size before wearing it. To take advantage of the free
exchange you must return the item of jewellery to us in its unworn,
pristine, re-saleable condition with original packaging and receipt
within 28 days from the date you receive your goods, in accordance
with our
Terms and
Conditions. |
| |
|
Adding Charms to
Bracelets |
|
We add all of our charms to our own bracelets for free. We only
offer this service on our own products and you will be responsible
for all delivery charges. |
| |
|
Rhodium Plating |
|
We choose not to rhodium plate our products as it affects the colour
of the precious metal making it look like chrome. However if you are
allergic to certain metals or like the look of rhodium plating we
can do this for you on special request as part of our Bespoke
Jewellery Service. We charge a minimum of £45 for this and will
quote on a case by case basis. We only offer this service on
our own products. |

JEWELLERY CARE |
| |
|
We hand-make all of our fine jewellery using solid precious metals.
We do not merely plate our products, and therefore we advise you to
clean and take good
care of your
jewellery as per our advice. We offer specialist jewellery care
advice for Diamonds &
Gemstones, Soft
Gemstones, our 2000
year old Thames Wood, and
Pearls. |
| |
|
Jewellery Cleaning |
|
Regularly give your fine jewellery a good hand polish with a
jewellery or silver cloth and follow the care instructions included.
Jewellery such as chains can be occasionally cleaned with a
jewellery dip for gold and platinum and a silver dip for sterling
silver. We sell a range of jewellery care products at both our
online shop and London shop, including the following: |
| |
|
Hagerty Silver & Jewel Cloth £4.95 - This is an
impregnated cloth that renews the sparkle on silver, gold, platinum,
diamonds, sapphires and rubies. It is used dry. Make sure you follow
the instructions included. |
| |
|
Hagerty Silver Clean £4.95 - This is a specialised
bath for silver jewellery that removes tarnish instantly and
restores the original shine. It is only to be used on sterling
silver articles and should be polished afterwards with a dry Silver
Cloth. Make sure you follow the instructions included. |
| |
|
Sometimes, if your jewellery is really tarnished or soiled it may
require a professional clean by our specialist jewellers. Please see
the Re-vamp and Repair section
of this guide. |
| |
|
Fine Jewellery
Care |
|
Make sure you take reasonable care when wearing your precious
jewellery and avoid wearing it in situations where it may get
damaged easily, especially whilst doing manual jobs. As jewellery
made from a precious metal is relatively soft it will scratch and
wear over time, especially if it comes into contact with harder
metals such as steel, stone and concrete etc. Avoid any kind of
contact with bleach or cleaning products e.g. at home work or in the
swimming pool. |
| |
|
When you are not wearing your jewellery keep it in a safe place e.g.
in the Jewellery Bag or Box that it comes with. If you keep your
jewellery in a jewellery box make sure that it is kept separate from
other items of jewellery as they may knock into each other causing
minor damage, especially Diamonds, as one Diamond is hard enough to
scratch another. |
| |
|
Be aware that the PH balance in your sweat can be altered when
taking any kind of pharmaceutical or narcotic drug, whether it is
for medicinal or recreational purposes. This can react with sterling
silver and tarnish more easily. |
| |
|
Diamond & Gemstone
Jewellery Care |
|
Diamonds are the hardest substance known to humankind and your
Diamond will last forever with the right care. All other Gemstones
are more fragile than Diamonds and also require special care.
Therefore we advise you to take note of our Diamond and Gemstone
jewellery care advice. |
| |
|
Take special care when wearing your Diamond and Gemstone jewellery
and avoid wearing it in situations where it may get damaged easily,
especially whilst doing manual jobs. |
| |
|
Diamonds are hard enough to scratch and cause damage to other
Diamonds. Always store your items of jewellery separately from each
other even when in a jewellery box. |
| |
|
Clean your Diamond jewellery using a professional Jewellery Dip or
Jewellery Cloth or by running under hot water and gently brushing
with a soft toothbrush. It is best to visit our London shop or send
your Diamond jewellery to us for a professional service at least
once a year. |
| |
|
Clean your Gemstone jewellery using a professional Jewellery Dip or
Jewellery Cloth or by running under tepid water and gently brushing
with a soft toothbrush. It is best to visit our London shop or send
your Gemstone jewellery to us for a professional service at least
once a year. |
| |
Please note that there are certain types of delicate Gemstones that
require special care which you can read about in our
Softer Gemstone
Jewellery Care section.
These include opal, moonstone, labradorite, amazonite, pearl, coral,
turquoise and any porous gemstones or any gemstone with a sure
hardness under 7. If in doubt contact us at
info@stepheneinhorn.co.uk
or phone us on 020 7359 4977 (local) or +44 20 7359 4977
(International) Monday to Saturday 10am – 6pm GMT. |
| |
|
As Stephen Einhorn prefers to use a “Gypsy”, “Rub-Over” or "Flush"
setting, your Diamond or Gemstone is better protected in its setting
as there are no prongs or claws to become bent or weakened. However
if at any point you are concerned about your Diamond and Gemstone
jewellery because you may have dropped or knocked it against
something hard you can test to see whether the Diamond or Gemstone
is still secure in its setting by tapping it gently with your finger
nail to see if the stone moves or makes a light rattling sound. If
you are concerned about your Diamond and Gemstone jewellery at any
point, always err on the side of caution and send it to us for our
specialist jewellers to look at. |
| |
|
Soft Gemstone
Jewellery Care |
|
Soft Gemstone Jewellery - such as any piece of Jewellery made with
Emerald, opal, moonstone, labradorite, Amazonite, Pearl, Coral, Turquoise and
any porous gemstones or any Gemstone with a sure hardness under 7 -
is of a more delicate nature, and requires special care. Therefore
it is important that you follow the following care instructions: |
| |
|
Don't leave them in direct sunlight or dry heat or overly humid
conditions and avoid getting them wet. As they are sensitive to
strong chemicals like hair sprays, deodorants & perfumes which can
discolour them, always put your softer Gemstone Jewellery on last
when dressing and take them off first when undressing. As their
surface is soft, store them separately to other jewellery so they do
not get scratched. If in doubt contact us at
info@stepheneinhorn.co.uk
or phone us on 020 7359 4977 (local) or +44 20 7359 4977
(International) Monday to Saturday 10am – 6pm GMT. |

|
Wood Jewellery
Care |
|
We have developed an impregnation and sealing technique to protect
and waterproof our rare 2000 year old Thames Wood. Whilst every
effort has been made to preserve the rare oak used in our fine
jewellery, like all precious jewellery it requires special care. We
advise you to follow these Wood Care instructions: |
| |
|
Avoid immersing your 2000 year old Thames Wood jewellery in water or
liquids e.g. whilst washing up, washing hands, bathing, showering,
swimming etc. Do not allow it to come into contact with any domestic
or industrial cleaning agents and do not use a wet type silver
cloth, silver dip or jewellery dip. To clean your 2000 year Thames
Wood jewellery use a Jewellery cloth that is designed for dry use on
the metal, avoiding any wood sections, or
send it to us for a professional clean. Try not to leave in strong
direct sunlight as this may lighten the colour of the wood. Avoid
any kind of contact with bleach or cleaning products e.g. at home
work or in the swimming pool. Make sure you take reasonable care
when wearing your precious jewellery with 2000 year old Thames Wood
and avoid wearing it in situations where it may get damaged easily,
especially whilst doing manual jobs. As jewellery made with 2000
year old Thames Wood is relatively soft it will scratch and wear
over time, especially if it comes into contact with harder metals
such as steel, stone and concrete etc. |
| |
|
Our Thames Wood has survived 2000 years of history and with the
right care and respect it will continue to last. |
| |
|
If in doubt contact us at
info@stepheneinhorn.co.uk
or phone us on 020 7359 4977 (local) or +44 20 7359 4977
(International) Monday to Saturday 10am – 6pm GMT. |
| |
|
Pearl Jewellery
Care |
|
Pearl Jewellery, being of a delicate nature, requires special care.
Therefore it is important that you follow the following care
instructions: |
| |
|
Don't leave your pearls in direct sunlight or dry heat. As they are
sensitive to strong chemicals like hair sprays, deodorants &
perfumes which can discolour them, always put your pearls on last
when dressing and take them off first when undressing. As their
surface is soft, store your pearls separately to other jeweller so
they do not get scratched. Do not wear your pearls if the string
gets wet. If your pearls are worn often you should return them to us
to be professionally re-strung at least once a year. |
