ENGRAVING

Most of our jewellery can be engraved. If you require a special message, name, date or design engraved onto one of our pieces we can arrange this for you on request. Most of our engraving is done by hand at a cost of £7.50 a letter. Most punctuation is free but symbols such as? ! & are charged as a character. Use the 'view engraving options' button on each design to see the engraving options that are available and select which message and style you would like. You can also see our engraving guide for further details and engraving examples. We advise you to be certain of your purchase before you have any item customised with engraving. Engraved items are classed as customised products and are therefore exempt from our money back guarantee and free exchange service. You will also be liable for all re-engraving charges and a possible re-make if the item is to be re-sized.

Special Engraving

Complex engraved designs that require extensive artwork can be requested as part of our bespoke jewellery service. We quote for this on a case-by-case basis and you should contact a member of our bespoke team at bespoke@stepheneinhorn.co.uk or come into our London showroom.

ALTERATIONS & RE-SIZING

If you require your ring or bangle to be re-sized or a necklace or bracelet shortened or lengthened then we can definitely help you out. We pride ourselves on our customer care and after-sales service. Normally this is free of charge unless an item has to be made bigger in which case a charge may be incurred due to an increase in material costs. These instances will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. This free service does not apply to customers who have visited our shop and had their rings fitted. Once we have set a stone into a ring any subsequent re-sizing will incur a charge. Please bring your ring in for a quote. We also add our own charms to bracelets and necklaces for free. We only offer this service on our own jewellery and the customer will be responsible for all delivery charges. We can also offer a rhodium plating service on special request. We only offer these jewellery services on our own designs.

In some instances where you have purchased the wrong sized item, we may have to hand make you a completely new piece if we don't have the design in stock. Therefore you should be prepared for this to take time. This would be in instances where: you have estimated the original ring size to be more than 2 - 3 ring sizes out; for any diamond, gemstone & Thames Wood jewellery where re-sizing the item would ruin the setting; and for Geo and titanium rings (which cannot be re-sized due to the fact that each ring is precision engineered). It is essential that you return any item bought which is incorrect before wearing it. This also applies to gift purchases. To take advantage of the free re-sizing (if applicable) or exchange you must return the item of jewellery to us in its unworn, pristine, re-saleable condition with original packaging and receipt within 28 days from the date you receive your goods, in accordance with our terms and conditions.

For special orders, customised products (including engraving) and bespoke items which require altering, you will always be charged a jewellery services fee which will be quoted for on a case-by-case basis.

JEWELLERY CARE

Our jewellery is handmade using solid precious metals, precious stones and semi-precious gemstones. We do not plate our designs. We advise you to take good care of your jewellery by doing the following:

When you wash your hands remove your rings as particles from soaps may become lodged in the gaps. When choosing your jewellery please take your activities into consideration. It is advisable not to wear your jewellery to the beach, swimming pool or to play sport, so as to avoid knocking or scratching it. Moreover, repeated contact with perfumes, cosmetics, household detergents or insecticides may damage the stones, or gold pins that decorate your designs.

With the exception of pearls and emeralds you can clean your own jewellery with lukewarm water and a very soft brush. Delicately scrub your designs and carefully rinse them and dry them with a soft cloth. The cleaning of pearls and emeralds is extremely delicate, and must only be entrusted to trained professionals such as ourselves. If this service is needed please contact our London shop at info@stepheneinhorn.co.uk or phone us on +44 (0) 20 7359 4977.

Sometimes, if your silver jewellery has become tarnished through lack of wear, it can be quite difficult to clean. We will gladly polish it up for you and give it a professional clean. Simply contact us at our London shop at at info@stepheneinhorn.co.uk or phone us on +44 (0) 20 7359 4977.

Make sure you take reasonable care when wearing your precious jewellery and avoid wearing it in situations where it may easily get damaged (e.g. doing manual jobs). As jewellery made from a precious metal is generally not totally indestructible it will scratch and wear over time, especially if it comes into contact with other hard metals or materials. Please be aware that if you knock a stone whatever type it is, even a diamond, it can break.

When you are not wearing your jewellery keep it in the jewellery bag or box that it came with, in a safe place. All jewellery should be stored individually as jewels may become scratched when stored together. Chains should be stored and laid flat in order to avoid the formation of knots.

Before wearing your jewellery, please check that the clasp and the safety catch (if it has one) is not loose and that the setting of the stones have not moved. If you have a stone set piece of jewellery and are concerned that the stone has come loose as a result of knocking or dropping it we would advise you to return it to us and we will have one of our specialist jewellers look at it. We encourage you to bring your jewellery back to us every year for professional servicing so it can be checked and cleaned for you. Our Stephen Einhorn jewellers will take time and care to inspect your jewellery in order to determine the service that needs to be provided.  If it is necessary you will receive a proper estimate. We will provide the service as soon as you validate the estimate.

Wood Jewellery Care

We have developed an impregnation and sealing technique to protect our rare 2000-year-old Thames Wood. Whilst every effort has been made to preserve the rare oak used in our fine jewellery, it will require extra special care. We advise you to follow these Thames Wood care instructions:

When choosing your jewellery, take your activities into consideration. It is preferable to avoid wearing any jewellery to the beach, swimming pool or to play sport, gardening etc, so as to avoid knocking or scratching it.

Avoid immersing your 2000-year-old Thames Wood jewellery in water or liquids e.g. whilst washing up, washing hands, bathing, showering, etc. Do not allow it to come into contact with any domestic or industrial cleaning agents and do not use a wet type silver cloth, silver dip or jewellery dip. To clean your 2000-year-old Thames-Wood jewellery use a jewellery cloth that is designed for dry use on the metal, avoiding any wood sections, or send it to us for a professional clean.

Try not to leave it in strong direct sunlight as this may lighten the colour of the wood. Make sure you take reasonable care when wearing your precious jewellery with Thames Wood and avoid wearing it in situations where it may get easily damaged. As jewellery made with our 2000- year-old Thames Wood is relatively soft it will scratch and wear over time, especially if it comes into contact with harder metals such as steel, stone and concrete etc.

Our Thames Wood has survived 2000 years of history and with the right care it should continue to last.

The best way to think about your Thames wood piece is this: look on this purchase in the same way that you would look on the purchase of an expensive watch with a leather strap. Occasionally you have to replace your strap through wear and tear. This may be the same for your Thames Wood piece. Occasionally the wood may need to be repaired or replaced. If this is the case please contact us.

We encourage you to bring your Thames Wood jewellery back to us every year for professional servicing. Our Stephen Einhorn jewellers will take time and care to inspect your jewellery in order to determine the service that needs to be provided. If it is necessary you will receive a proper estimate. We will provide the service as soon as you validate the estimate.

Pearl Jewellery Care

Pearl jewellery, being of a delicate nature, requires special care. Therefore it is important that you use the following care instructions:

Don't leave your pearls in direct sunlight or dry heat. As they are sensitive to strong chemicals like hair sprays, deodorants & perfumes which can discolour them, always put your pearls on last when dressing and take them off first when undressing.

As a pearl's surface is soft, store your pearl jewellery separately to other jeweller, and store it in its original packaging. Do not allow your pearls to get wet, as this will rot the thread and weaken it considerably.

If your pearls are worn often you should return them to us to be professionally re-strung at least once a year. We encourage you to bring your jewellery back to us every year for professional servicing. Our Stephen Einhorn jewellers will take time and care to inspect your jewellery in order to determine the service that needs to be provided.  If it is necessary you will receive a proper estimate. We will provide the service as soon as you validate the estimate.
