What’s On- Art & Design in Zurich
Our latest update from our man about town comes from Zurich – one for our travelling clientele! (Sorry it’s a bit late the dog had it in his basket, naughty dog!!!!)
MIGROS MUSEUM
Hubertus exhibitions
Albisriederstrasse 199a
Wifredo Diaz Valdez until 6th November
Amazing show of wood sculptures by 79 year old Uruguayan artist. He cuts and re-assembles household items including chairs and doors but uses worn twine and wooden pegs to hold the pieces in place. An accompanying DVD shows the artist at work.
HAUSER & WIRTH
(same address as Migros Museum)
Ian Wallace until 5th November
Show of work by Canadian artist which includes a fabulous group of 10 works entitled Abstract Composition (The Table). These are photolaminates with acrylic paint on canvas which reference Wallace’s studio tables and the books, magazines and other items he keeps on them.
GALERIE EVA PRESENHUBER
Zahnradstrasse 21
Ugo Rondinone until October 29th
The show includes a series of enormous black and white watercolours of woodland scenes which appear to be gigantic wood cuts but are loosely painted and look fabulous when seen from a distance. There is also gallery full of cast bronze small birds standing alone or in small groups, which look very lifelike.
KUNSTHAUS
Heimplatz 1
This is the main contemporary art gallery in Zurich and as well as being an amazing building it houses a wonderful collection of work including items by Baselitz, Beuys, Kiefer, Hamilton, Rothko and Warhol to name a few. There are special exhibitions and also galleries of earlier work.
For the antique/bric-a-brac lovers there is a flea market on Saturdays at the Birkiplatz and on the opposite side of the nearby bridge a temporary (but there for sometime yet) stall selling Bratwurst and beer………..possibly the best in town.
Rather fine chocolates from Sprungli which also has a tearoom (if you can afford it!)
